Southern scenic route

The Southern Scenic Route is a great way to travel around the province of Southland and Bluff is an ideal spot to stop the night and spend some time.

Accommodation options range from the Camping Ground, to Backpackers, self contained cottages and bungalows, B & Bs, and hotels including the Eagle and the fabulous art deco Foveaux Hotel.

While in the town be sure to check out the activities and attractions and don’t forget to visit the spot where the State Highway 1 begins at Stirling Point.

The Maritime Museum is a “must visit” attraction, with much information on early shipwrecks along the South Coast – you will see some of these historic sites, especially as you travel through the Catlins Coast towards Dunedin.

Of course if you want to sample our world famous Bluff Oysters, you should plan your visit during the Oyster Season, which runs from March until the quota has been caught, usually August.
